Today was a “repositioning” day, moving from Arenal (still no volcano – it didn’t appear to see us off) to the Pacific side of Costa Rica. Across the Continental Divide, following multiple switchbacks, we slowly made our way to the Monteverde area, arriving at our hotel built into the side of a mountain in mid-afternoon.
Monteverde is the famous “cloud forest” area, and we can testify to that, as we literally walked through the clouds to get to our room at about 6,000 feet. The sun shines but the mist envelops you everywhere you go, with a very fine spray.
This will be a “chilling” day, to rest up for tomorrow’s “Canopy Walk”,
Hummingbird and Reptile Exhibits, and for those not plagued with acrophobia, a mile-long zipline ride 150 feet above the ground, up in the treetops.
We did discover a new rum native to Costa Rica, Centenario 7, which looks to be a keeper for us (not that we expect to have any left by our departure). Can you say duty-free?
Totally enjoyed your pictures (funny that I have many of the same! :-), and I especially enjoy your narrative… excellent capture of our memorable moments on the trip! It was great to be with the both of you… Pura Vida!!!!
Two more posts to go – Day 8 with hummingbirds and a very wet canopy walk, and Day 9 with a beach excursion. Hope to get those posted by the weekend. Then on to editing the 550 photos to find the 25-30 “best shots”.
