On Sunday morning the Danube delivered us to Vienna, the capital of Austria and the historic home of the Hapsburg empire. It was historic of sorts for Polly and i to be in Vienna, as well. as we had visited the city 29 years ago on a singing tour.
We visited the famous Sacher Hotel, home of the Sachter torte, and returned for a nostalgic stroll through the Bristol Hotel, the scene of a memorable dinner party so many years ago,
Transportation has been considerably modernized since our last time in the city, with a very efficient Metro-style subway system now in place. Of course the older modes of transit are still very visible and in use on all of the streets.
