One of the more surprising findings during this initial part of our trip was how close the pyramids and the Sphinx are to civilization and the modern city of Giza. I expected to ride across the desert for a couple of hours in a 4×4 to see these monuments. You can actually see the Great Pyramid from the buffet area at the local Marriott (which offers a great breakfast, by the way).
After viewing the sphinx and the Great Pyramid, our group went for a camel ride (Polly and I opted for a carriage, instead, not pictured here since I was shooting the photo).
