Ullapool is one of the most remote settings in the Unite Kingdom, and is situated on the shores of Loch Broom. The town is the only significant dwelling place for miles in all directions, surrounded mostly by wilderness and dramatic mountain peaks.
Ullapool is historically a fishing village, where “crofters” (small farmers in Northern Scotland) were forced to move when the English barons confiscated their farms, following the “unification” of Scotland and England in the 18th Century.

Ullapool has become a popular starting point for the so-called “555 trek” the length of the U.K., with campers, motorcycles, and various other vehicles starting their trip in the remote village.
